Wildlife Paintings by Joel Jackson

SAINT PETER, MINN. – “Wildlife and Bird Feathers,” the largest single exhibition to date of digital photography and paintings by Saint Peter artist Joel Jackson, will be on display at the Arts Center of Saint Peter Nov. 27 through Dec. 27. Jackson, who was born in Tanzania and lived there for the first 18 years of his life, says interaction with wildlife was integral to his formative years. Jackson went on to earn a degree in art from Gustavus Adolphus College, and spent the majority of his career as an information technology specialist until retirement in 2014.

“Wildlife and Bird Feathers” integrates Jackson’s artistic aptitude and technological expertise. While the works are not computer-generated, they are “painted” in Adobe PhotoShop. Within this digital canvas workspace, Jackson creates wildlife paintings and digitally dissects and manipulates his bird photos to create colorful kaleidoscopic images. A free public reception with the artist will take place on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 4-6 p.m. Jackson will deliver brief remarks about his process at 4:30 p.m.

Since 1979, the Arts Center of Saint Peter has hosted creative performances, classes for youth and adults, exhibits and more, serving residents of Saint Peter and the surrounding region. The galleries are free and open to the public.
