CityArt People's Choice Winner Announed

MANKATO, Minn.— Twin Rivers Council for the Arts and the City Center Partnership announced the 2015 CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour award winners at the November 17th Greater Mankato Business Awards and Hall of Fame event. The People’s Choice was awarded to Dale Lewis of Hastings, MN for his stainless steel sculpture “Godzilla”, currently located in the City Center of North Mankato. This sculpture will be purchased by the City Center Partnership and Twin Rivers and permanently installed in City Center Mankato.

Best of Show sculptures were juried and selected by an esteemed group of judges including: Lois Peterson- Professor of Art and Art History at Gustavus Adolphus College, William Bukowski - Professor of Studio Art at Bethany Lutheran College, and Dana Sikkila – Director of the 410 Project. Winning sculptures in “Other Materials” included, Best of Show – Honorable Mention, “Dystopia” by Tim James and Aidan Demarais of Minnesota; Best of Show – Third, “Vermont Winter Pastoral” by Kat Clear of Michigan; Best of Show – Second, “Street Seat” by Greg Mueller of South Carolina; and Best of Show – “Orbit II” by David Hyduke of Minnesota. Winning sculptures in “Bronze” included, Best of Show – Honorable Mention, “Mayflower” by Susan Geissler of New York; Best of Show – Third, “World’s Her Canvas” by Lee Leuning and Sherri Treeby of South Dakota; Best of Show – Second, “Stalking Fox” by David Turner of Virginia; and Best of Show – “Well Mannered” by Del Pettigrew of Nebraska.

Since 2011, CityArt has facilitated the addition of fourteen permanent sculptures in City Center Mankato and throughout the community adding beauty and dimension to the downtown core. Plans are well underway for the 2016 tour which will include approximately thirty sculptures with several spots reserved for artists from the Greater Mankato area. The CityArt committee is currently seeking individual and business sponsorships for the 2016 tour.
