Merely Players Announces Plea to Help Kris Kringle

Historic Merely Players Community Theater is putting out a call for “Letters to Santa” to appear on-stage for their next production, Miracle on 34th Street. The theater group is following up it’s the success of its 2015-16 Season opener, Junie B. Jones, The Musical, with this holiday classic to warm the heart and give a reason to believe. Maggie Maes, director of the play, explained the request, “We really wanted to find a way for the whole community to take part in our performance, if even in a small way. Having children and adults write letters to help Kris Kringle is at the very heart of this production.”

The play centers on Kris Kringle, a kindly old gentleman who happens to play Santa at Macy’s department store. Kris soon finds himself in court, however, when his Christmas spirit clashes with a cynical, commercial world. The judgment in this case will not only determines Kringle’s future, but the future of one little girl’s belief in Santa Claus.

The play is for adults and children alike and has several child actors in lead and supporting roles. Corey Van Raalte, Vice Chair of the Merely Players board and the actor playing Kringle, said this of the younger actors, “The kids in our show have an amazing talent and their Christmas spirit is infectious. The idea for real letters to Santa came from a desire to spread that spirit throughout our community. That’s why it’s so important that when we’re done with the letters, they’re going straight to the North Pole.”
