It has now been confirmed by reports that Kevin Haefner, who recently underwent surgery, has sold the Wagon Wheel Cafe in Mankato with the condition that the business retains the historic name.

Coca-Cola has offended indigenous people in Mexico after releasing a commercial depicting a young group of Caucasian people coming to bring Coke to people in Oaxaca. According to Delish via MSN, the commercial sparked outrage among many indigenous Mexicans in Mexico and others across the continent, accusing the company of racist messaging.


Schells Releases Apparent Horizon Noble Star Sour Berliner Weisse

August Schell Brewing Company in New Ulm recently released the eighth edition of its Noble Star Collection of craft beer that belongs in the Berliner Weisse sour styles. It is called Apparent Horizon and it is noted for its unusual hint of rye malt.

“With Apparent Horizon, we wanted to put a twist on the fruity acidity normally found in a Berliner Weisse,” said Jace Marti, Schell’s brewmaster and sixth generation member of the Schell’s family.


Holiday Fare at Arts Center of Saint Peter

SAINT PETER, MINN. – Craft beer samplings hosted by Barley’s Angels Mankato, the local chapter of a national organization for women who enjoy craft beer, are the newest addition to the Arts Center of Saint Peter’s annual “Holiday Fare: Art, Music, Lefse” on Saturday, Nov. 7, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m at the St. Peter Community Center.

A local tradition for more than two decades, Holiday Fare features juried art and crafts for sale by local artisans and a bake sale featuring traditional German, Norwegian and Swedish treats.


DEED Says Food Production Strong in SW Minnesota

According to the Department for Employment and Economic Development, the regional economy declined 3.8 percent during the recession from 2007 to 2010, but food manufacturing gained 466 net new jobs, an increase of 4.7 percent.

With 10,140 jobs at 108 establishments, food production leads the manufacturing industry’s employment and growth in the region, according to a release from DEED. Though southwest Minnesota has just 6.4 percent of total state employment across all sectors, it is home to 22.2 percent of the state’s food manufacturing employment.
