Third Annual Kevin Kanne Memorial Young Artist Competition Winners, Grand Champion Invited to Perform with Symphony

The Mankato Symphony Orchestra held its annual Kevin Kanne Memorial Young Artist Competition on Sunday, October 19, 2014. The competition is named for a beloved member of the symphony who died suddenly in December 2012 and is intended to promote the growth of young musicians. In its third year, the competition is as strong as ever. Contestants competed in two divisions: college division -undergraduate students, and senior division-grades 9-12, for the opportunity to be named winner of their division and to receive prizes donated by local businesses.

Music on the Hill Chamber Series Fifth Anniversary

Mankato Symphony Orchestra welcomes violist Sifei Cheng

The fifth season of Music on the Hill, the Mankato Symphony’s chamber music series, will end with the world premiere of a newly commissioned string quartet by famous composer Marc Mellits. Each concert leading up to this event is named for and will showcase a compositional technique. The first concert is titled “Imitation”, with repertoire either directly borrowing from other pieces of music or by imitating the sounds of other instruments. The performance will be at 2 pm on Sunday, November 2 in the Chapel at Good Counsel.

Mankato Mosaic to Feature 24-Hour Art Show Featuring Theme from Community

Be part of Mankato Mosaic's 24-Hour Art Show, set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Mankato Event Center.

Four musicians, four poets, four playwrights and four artists will be chosen on Monday, Oct. 6. All will have to create their art using a theme drawn randomly by Mankato Mosaic members. Anyone in the community can submit a short theme -- a quote, a phrase, a sentence -- and email it to mankatomosaic@gmail.com with 24-Theme in the subject line, along with your name and phone contact.

Scott Wesley to Perform at Gustavus Tonight

Scott Wesley will perform at Saint Peter's private college tonight. He will grace the Courtyard Cafe at Gustavus Adolphus College.

According to the Gustavus Event Calendar and the activities coordinator at the college for this event, "Scott Wesley performs a high energy show with diverse sound in the pop/rock genre. He's performed at over 60 colleges and universities across the country. Come to the Courtyard Café to relax, grab some coffee, and hear some great music."

Mankato, Minn. – September 4, 2014– Come and enjoy the first of four hilarious and fun filled performances based upon Haydn’s String Quartets with the Austrian composer himself and the Mankato Symphony Orchestra String Quartet. This is a show for all ages. Each child takes home a gift and a snack at the end of each show. The first performance of this series will be taking place next Saturday, September 13th, in the Mankato YMCA Exercise room.

Chief Keef to Perform in Mankato in Time for MSU Homecoming

Popular hip hop artist Chief Keef will be performing in Mankato just in time for the madness that is Minnesota State University Homecoming. The news hit Twitter last week.
