Token BBQ Reopens Today

Token BBQ in Mapleton, MN is considered a local independent barbecue treasure and it was opened by Tony Gregor and his wife in the small Southern Minnesota town near Mankato after years of considering the flavors of Kansas City, where Gregor studied in college. His pit passion ran him into some financial assistance issues with the City of Mapleton, but the business is now able to reopen its doors and offer its unique delicious dishes to Southern Minnesotans again, according to a news release from the City of Mapleton.

New Sculptures Headed to Mankato City Streets for CityArt

Early in the morning on Saturday, April 5, volunteers from the CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour, a program of the City Center Partnership, will remove the current sculptures to prepare the bases for the fourth installation of the public art tour. Thirty-two new sculptures are slated to arrive in the City Center of Mankato and North Mankato on Saturday, May 17th.

Free Family Concert Series: Viva Vivaldi-Summer

Mankato, Minn. – March 25, 2014– Come and enjoy the last of four hilarious and fun filled performances based upon Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Italian composer himself and the Mankato Symphony Orchestra String Quartet. These performances are admission-free and suitable for all ages! Each child takes home a gift of T-shirt and a snack at the end of each show. The last performance of this series will be taking place on Saturday, April 5 in the Mankato YMCA Exercise room. The music will be from the “Summer” movement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

Wes Schuck from Two Fish Studios Posts Experience of SXSW Incident

Wes Schuck, owner of Two Fish Recording Studios and No Alternative Media in Mankato, posted a photo from SXSW just minutes before a vehicle roared through a crowd killing and inuring some people at the music festival in Austin, Texas.

Schuck is a music promoter who has been involved in countless recordings and tours and recently beat a stint with colon cancer. Schuck said he is glad to not be hurt in the incident, which he was close to, according to his Facebook post. Schuck is now involved in film making but always takes time to hit up SXSW music festival in Austin.

Electronic Weapons Minneapolis and Mankato, Minnesota Hip Hop

The Spitflame label in Minneapolis will be throwing shows with Electronic Weapons in Minneapolis, Mankato and more in the coming months. Their next Twin Cities hip hop show is at the Capri Theater, 2027 W. Broadway Ave. in Minneapolis.

The Minneapolis show will feature Miracole and Kalayah Jones, two female artists in the area. The group will also head to Mankato to play at Savoy in May. Keep checking back to Slanted Mag for more details on upcoming shows from these performers.

Suit and Tie Genocide, a heavy rock and hardcore band from Minneapolis will be playing a series of shows coming up, including the following:

March 31 at Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis. They will be playing with Fuel, CageGods and Strange Daze. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and is an 18+ show. Tickets are $18 in advance and $23 at the door.
