belle independent world film owatonna

Belle is a sumptuously filmed historical drama inspired by the true story of Dido Elizebeth Belle, the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing.

Indie Foreign Film at Owatonna Library: Far from the Madding Crowd

In Victorian England, the independent and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak, a sheep farmer; Frank Troy, a handsome and reckless soldier; and William Boldwood, a prosperous, mature bachelor. Thomas Hardy’s literary classic, Far from the Madding Crowd, is a compelling and timeless tale that is much more than a love story. Although written almost 150 years ago, Bathsheba remains as fierce a character as ever - and she has been brought to life by Carey Mulligan in this dazzling new production.
